I wasn't too sure I was ready to go through this with a 2 year old, but know that it is for the best and that he will be able to breathe so much better. It is really hard though because he just doesn't understand what is going on, but I was determined to be brave. He was not too sure about all the nurses and doctors and he hung very close to mommy. When it was time for his surgery they let him ride in a wagon to the operating room. He thought it was pretty neat at first, but then wasn't too sure where he was going. They let me pull him to the main operating room doors and then the nurse too over. I held it together until they took him from me and then I lost it. I knew everything was going to be okay, but handing over my baby (putting my complete trust in strangers) was so hard.
His surgery was so fast (maybe 30 min.) and the doc said it went great. When they took me back to recovery he was just sobbing for his mommy, but the moment I took him he just snuggled in and settled down. Then the fun began. Every time they tried to take his blood pressure he would just scream and yell "off, off, owy". Then they put the monitor on his toe to measure the oxygen in his blood and he was did not want it on his toe. He threw a fit and pulled on both until they took them off. Then he realized that he had an IV in and he tried pulling it out which would not have been good. He was not a happy camper and nothing was distracting him (not even Lightening McQueen). Luckily I convinced him to leave his IV alone, so it didn't come out. He did not like the nurses touching or doing anything to him.
Then they moved us to a room on the pediatric floor and he finally settled down. He still threw a fit every time they tried to take his vitals, but not near as bad as in recovery. I think he liked the nurses better. We were supposed to spend the night, but he did so good drinking and even ate some mashed potatoes that they let us come home later that night. I was very happy to be home!
Now the healing process has begun and we are just hanging out at home. Lots of snugglin' :o) quiet time, and watching movies. He is healing very good and is being so good about everything. I am grateful that everything went so well and so thankful for all of the love and support from all of our family and friends.
